Kayla & Scott | Devonport Wedding

Some wedding days are spent looking up at the sky, watching the elements roll in. For Kayla and Scott’s classy celebration in Devonport, the whole day was spent anxiously tracking the weather as Auckland sat under a looming cyclone warning. But instead of letting the storm dampen the mood, it only seemed to heighten the excitement and bring everyone closer together.

The day began with Kayla getting ready at a nearby house. It was a beautiful, calm pocket of time where we captured some stunning bridal prep shots. Kayla looked absolutely breathtaking in her dress—an elegant, timeless look that set the tone for the entire day.

From there, we moved to the historic Holy Trinity Church in Devonport. The church looked incredible, providing a grand yet intimate backdrop for the ceremony. The service itself was deeply personal, conducted by a close friend of Kayla’s, which made the vows feel all the more meaningful. Any lingering nerves about the weather completely evaporated the moment they were pronounced husband and wife, leading into a lively, dancing exit down the aisle.

Knowing that Scott is a naturally shy man who doesn't love being in front of the lens, my approach for the day was all about being mindful of his comfort. Instead of heavy direction or forced posing, we focused on documenting the day as it naturally unfolded. By keeping things relaxed and low-pressure, we managed to capture his genuine smile and the quiet, authentic connection between the two of them without him ever feeling put on the spot.

The celebration moved to the Devonport Yacht Club, where the reception quickly turned into a thumping party. The band "Hands Off" took the stage and absolutely blasted 80s classics, turning the dance floor into a sea of high-energy moves and endless laughter.

Kayla and Scott, thank you for trusting me to document your day. Cyclone warning and all, it was an unforgettable celebration full of heart, style, and brilliant energy.

Here is a glimpse into their classy Devonport wedding...

“Tony was awesome! We picked Moments in Light because we liked the "start to end" flexibility, rather than many other photographers who only offer ~6hr slots. It meant Tony could join us when getting ready, then throughout the ceremony, reception and the party! Tony has an awesome calming energy, and never once made us feel silly as a couple who have never had professional photography in our lives. Tony dealt well with rambunctious family, was cool as a cucumber with cyclone alerts going off during our day, got awesome action shots on the dance floor, and also took special extra portraits of family and friends during downtime. Would absolutely recommend!”
