Auckland Wedding Venues: A Local Photographer's Guide
Choosing a venue is one of the first big decisions of planning a wedding, and often one of the most personal — it sets the tone for everything that follows, from the light your ceremony will be held in to the backdrop of every photograph you'll keep for the rest of your life.
I've put this guide together from two places: venues I've had the privilege of photographing weddings at myself, and details shared by venues and couples across Auckland. Where I've shot a wedding at a venue on this list, I've linked through to that real day so you can see it for yourself rather than take my word for it.
West Auckland & Kumeu
This is the part of Auckland I know best, and where I've shot the majority of my weddings — vineyards, country estates, and barns set against the Waitakere Ranges.
Settlers Country Manor (Waimauku) — I'm a preferred photography vendor here, and it's easy to see why couples fall for it: heritage charm, manicured gardens, and high timber ceilings with chandeliers inside, all handled by a dedicated planning team from ceremony through reception. Markovina Vineyard Estate — Vineyard grounds with thoughtfully designed packages, including drinks included in the per-person pricing and attentive guest care throughout the day. Full details on the West Auckland Wedding Venues guide.
Kumeu Valley Estate — Flexible ceremony locations and a range of dining styles, so the celebration can be shaped around you. Full details on the West Auckland Wedding Venues guide.
Allely Estate — A villa-and-marquee property on landscaped grounds, taking anything from intimate gatherings to 300-plus guests. Winner of Wedding of the Year 2020/21, with plenty of on-site photo spots plus nearby vineyards, beaches, and forests, twenty minutes from central Auckland.
Soljans Estate Winery — A modern country vineyard pairing its own wine with function facilities built for weddings, with a gallery of past events on their site if you want a feel for the space first.
The Hunting Lodge (Waimauku) — Eighty acres of Kumeu wine country, thirty-five minutes from the CBD. Their blank-canvas barn seats 168 (250 standing), with bespoke menus, a vintage caravan bar, and a choice of ceremony spots.
The Boat House (Riverhead) — A rural setting twenty-five minutes from the city with a fine-dining tradition and several indoor-outdoor spaces to shoot across. They also bring an established network of celebrants, florists, and musicians if you're still building your vendor team.
Lone Pine Estate (Riverhead) — An Italian-inspired courtyard with water features, pergolas, and mosaic detail, plus an open-air amphitheatre for ceremonies. Semi-dry hire if you'd like to bring your own catering and alcohol.
Tui Hills — a new favourite
Tui Hills (Swanson) — Native bush, ferns, and nikau palms right on the edge of the Waitakere Ranges, thirty minutes from town — a beautiful, distinctly New Zealand setting, and one that resonated strongly with the couple I photographed there. Rodney & North Auckland
Heading north, Rodney's coastal and rural venues suit couples wanting a more relaxed, destination-style feel without leaving Auckland.
The Stables (Matakana) — Far enough from the city to feel like a proper escape, close enough to stay convenient — I've photographed a wedding here myself. Runs year-round with two fireplaces, an in-house decorating team, and all-inclusive packages.

The Farmers Daughter (Omaha) — White weatherboards and pohutukawa trees overlooking the Omaha estuary and its own vegetable gardens. Seats 70 indoors, extending to 250 with teepees or a marquee.
Vanderosa Farms (Pakiri Beach) — Panoramic views over Pakiri Beach, with a spacious indoor area, viewing deck, full bar, and on-site accommodation right beside the lawn.
Woodhouse Mountain Lodge (Warkworth) — 100-plus private acres built for intimate weddings and elopements up to about 40 guests, with a mountain ceremony spot looking out over the Gulf and an on-site restaurant for the reception.
Boutique Barn (Silverdale) — Small kauri barns with aged red paint and chandeliers, taking anything from an elopement to fifty guests. Rustic-vintage in feel, with flexible off-site catering and a bridal suite for two.
Central Auckland
For couples who want the city itself as part of the day — skyline views, waterfront, or a heritage building as your backdrop.
The Hotel Britomart(Britomart) — Upscale and intimate, right in the heart of the Britomart precinct, with an urban-chic backdrop that photographs beautifully. I photographed a wedding here myself. See Shannon & Darren's day.
Cordis (Symonds Street) — Right in the city, with personalised service and one of the largest pillarless ballrooms in Auckland.
The Officers Mess (Devonport) — Clifftop, with Rangitoto views over Narrow Neck Beach. Three indoor spaces plus an outdoor deck, so ceremony, reception, and after-party can all happen without moving your guests anywhere else.
Glasshouse Morningside — A glass-walled sanctuary in the city, described as its own kind of oasis, with a dedicated events team.
Okahu (Tamaki Drive) — Waterfront in Ōrākei, fifteen minutes from the CBD, with exclusive hire of the indoor spaces, balcony, and wharf, flexible catering, and free parking.
Mantells (Tamaki Drive) — Waterfront on Tamaki Drive, flexible enough to suit both a full celebration and a smaller gathering with close family and friends.
East & South Auckland
Further out, these venues trade the city for space — rural land, native bush, and harbour views.
Bracu Estate (Bombay) — About forty minutes from the city, with a Mediterranean feel across olive groves and rolling hills, and a pavilion reception space you can shape to your own style.
Kauri Bay (Clevedon) — Full-service, including guest transport from set pickup points. All-weather ceremony options with panoramic views, several photo locations, and menus built around you.
Tabula Rasa (Ramarama) — Thirty minutes out and worlds away in feel, with lush gardens, a covered gazebo, and an infinity pool across several adaptable spaces.
Turanga Creek (Whitford) — Under thirty minutes from the city, a century-old stable beside an organic vineyard with a Tuscan feel. Vine-side ceremonies under a wooden arch, a macrocarpa-and-redwood interior, and room for 30 to 120 guests with wet-weather cover if you need it.
Connemara Country Lodge (Awhitu) — Set on 7.5 acres of farmland and native bush on the Awhitu Peninsula, with plenty of room and natural backdrops to shoot across.
Waiheke Island
Mudbrick (Waiheke Island) — A thirty-five-minute ferry from the city, with hand-built mudbrick architecture, formal gardens, sea views, and a well-regarded kitchen and wine list if food and wine matter to your day.
Wherever your day takes place, the venue is really just the setting — what makes the photographs is the light, the people, and the moments that happen almost by accident.
