Mikaela & Dylan – Heartfelt Moments at The Barn, Waimauku
Some weddings are filled with big moments. Others are filled with meaning in every small detail. Mikaela and Dylan’s day was beautifully both.
Their celebration took place at The Barn Waimauku, a venue that perfectly suits weddings that feel warm, personal, and full of character. But before the celebrations began, they were married in a lovely church ceremony — a meaningful and traditional start to a day that would unfold in such a unique and heartfelt way.
Mikaela has a real love for tea, and that became one of the most memorable touches of the day. After the ceremony, guests were treated to a wide selection of specialty teas — a thoughtful and personal twist that created such a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Instead of the usual rush, everyone slowed down, enjoyed the moment, and shared in something that was so distinctly them. Even the cake cutting became part of this experience, served alongside tea in a way that felt intimate and intentional.
For their portraits, we headed to a family friend’s home near the venue — a beautiful, peaceful setting that gave us space to create something a little more personal. These quieter moments away from the crowd are always special, and Mikaela and Dylan were completely at ease, simply enjoying being together.
As the day moved into the reception, the tone shifted into something deeply emotional.
The speeches were thoughtful, sincere, and full of meaning. Mikaela spoke about her journey growing up, and how life had led her to fall in love with her best friend’s brother — a story that felt both familiar and incredibly special at the same time. Then Dylan stood up, guitar in hand, and played a song he had written himself — the very song he used to propose. It was one of those moments where the room goes completely still. Raw, genuine, and full of love.
And just when you thought the day couldn’t hold any more emotion, it opened up into pure joy.
As the evening carried on, everyone gathered outside for a ceilidh led by Noel Armstrong. What followed was something truly special — laughter, music, and people of all ages coming together on the dance floor. It wasn’t about perfect steps or polished moves, just connection, energy, and shared celebration. The kind of moment that brings everyone closer and leaves a lasting impression.
Mikaela and Dylan’s wedding was full of heart — thoughtful, emotional, and deeply personal from beginning to end. A day that reflected not just their love for each other, but the people and moments that have shaped their story..
“Absolutely excellent wedding photographer. From day dot Tony was organised and professional with a streamlined process so we were never left guessing. He creatively captures people and atmosphere in a way that means we will have beautiful memories of our day for our whole lives. Ten out of ten would recommend!”
